We tend to think of air conditioners as summer appliances; which is understandable, but during winter, a split-system air conditioner can save you a lot of money. For most, upgrading or installing a new AC comes to mind when things start to heat up. Which is understandable, out of sight – out of mind.
However it’s usually in your best interest to install a new air conditioner in winter, here’s why:
1. Avoid the summer rush
The first and most logical reason is to avoid the summer rush of others also looking to upgrade or install. Putting off your install for summer might mean that you’ll struggle to get an installation as quickly as you’d want.
2. Reverse-cycle is your best friend
Having an air conditioner that can both heat and cool your home is a must. Split-system air conditioners offer you a greater level of power and warmth over traditional heaters, meaning your home heats up quicker. And when the hotter months do roll in, you’ll have a proper cooling solution already installed.
3. Air conditioners are cheaper in winter
As things cool down and less people purchase air conditioners, prices tend to cool as well. And because End of Financial Year sales are smack-bang in the middle of winter, buying a new air conditioner any other time is going to cost you more.
4. Air conditioners are cheaper to operate than traditional heaters
Thanks to their power and output capacity, split-system air conditioners can heat up an area significantly quicker than panel heaters or any other type of heater; for this reason alone, they’re cheaper to operate. The inbuilt thermostat in split-system air conditioners will automatically power down the unit when the desired temperature is reached, saving you electricity and money.
5. More functions than a standalone heater
Thanks to modern Wi-Fi connectivity, a lot of newer air conditioners can be remotely controlled, meaning you can come home to a warm home, daily. If that’s not your style, you can program a 7 day heating schedule that keeps your home efficiently heated during the times you need it most. The alternative is using an array of heaters in each room which is harder to maintain and not as energy efficient.
